Congratulations to MCDC Director, Brian Greenwood

MCDC Director, Prof Sir Brian Greenwood, has been awarded a 2012 Canada Gairdner Award. Created in 1957, the Gairdner Foundation awards scientists in every field of bioscience. In its 53 year history, the foundation has presented awards to 298 scientists from 13 countries, 76 of whom have gone on to win the Nobel Prize.

Dr. John Dirks, president and scientific director of the Gairdner Foundation, described Prof Sir Brian as "the figure in international health and tropical medicine" for his research in the fields of malaria, meningitis and pneumonia.

This award follows a string of other accolades for Prof Greenwood in 2012 including a knighthood and an honorary fellowship at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
