MCDC Research Methodology Course, Malawi. 2nd June – 10th July 2009

All the MCDC students are currently immersed in a six week Research Methodology Course hosted by the College of Medicine (CoM), University of Malawi at its campus in Blantyre.
The RMC course is being jointly organized by the; DBL - Centre for Health Research and Development, LSHTM - London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, LSTM - Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and CoM - College of Medicine.
In total 21 students are benefitting from the course, with additional students from the Malaria in Pregnancy Consortium (MiP) and the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme (MLW) joining the MCDC students.
This specifically tailored modular course aims to provide the MCDC students with a systematic overview of the processes and theory involved in planning and conducting high quality research. Modules being covered include: Research theory and cross disciplinary research, Objective development, Qualitative and quantitative study methods, Data handling and statistics, Research ethics and GPS and GIS. In addition, students will be gaining an introduction to the MCDC Personal Development Planning programme and a series of guest lectures from eminent malaria researchers.
