Senior Fellowship Awards Announced
03 December 2009
Two $300,000 grants have been awarded for research that is directly relevant to the prevention or treatment of malaria.
Applications from MCDC Investigators were reviewed by a panel of independent experts and it was agreed that the standard was very high. Priority was given to projects which involve research conducted primarily within Africa. Proposals were judged on (a) the relevance of the proposal to the control of malaria in Africa, (b) the scientific quality of the proposal and (c) the previous research accomplishments of the applicant.
The successful applications were from:
Badara Cisse for a project entitled 'Identifying and characterising foci of malaria transmission in potential malaria elimination settings in rural Senegal'.
and
Evelyn Ansah for a project entitled 'The role of rapid diagnostic tests for malaria for the targetting of ACTs at community level: a cluster randomized trial'.
