An MCDC Investigator has been awarded a grant of $100k for a Research and Development project.
Applications were reviewed by a panel of independent experts. Priority was given to projects which involve research conducted primarily within Africa. Proposals were judged on (a) the relevance of the proposal to the control of malaria in Africa, (b) the scientific quality of the proposal and (c) the previous research accomplishments of the applicant.
The award was given to Dr Kamija Phiri for a project entitled 'Establishment of the Tropical Haematology Research Unit to build capacity and support laboratory research in the College of Medicine'.
