MCDC Mentoring Programme
24 January 2011
MCDC has established a mentoring programme for its postdoctoral fellows. The programme matches mentees with a mentor to help support mentees with their personal and professional development, so that they are able to reach their full potential as self-reliant, self-confident and independent scientific researchers. The process of matching mentees with mentors started early last year and 28 Investigators are now enrolled onto the programme.
Support and training materials for both mentors and mentees have been developed by MCDC and were launched at the annual meeting in Accra last week. The materials are web based and were developed in conjunction with Manta Ray Media Ltd. These are now available for all those enrolled onto the programme to access via the online MCDC Community which is a web based communication platform used by the consortium.
Support, review and advice in developing the mentorship programme has been provided by the Academy of Medical Sciences, Clutterbuck Associates and the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research (CCGHR).
An MCDC Mentoring Steering Committee has been established to oversee the mentoring programme and includes representation from the MCDC secretariat, the staff and education development department of LSHTM, the Academy of Medical Sciences, the THRiVE Consortium and an MCDC mentor and a mentee.
