Postgraduate Supervision Course in Blantyre

01 September 2011

The workshop was organised for the supervisors and advisors of the MCDC PhD students based at CoM and the Malawi-Liverpool Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme (MLW).

This workshop generated a lot of interest, so to broaden this development opportunity, MCDC and the CoM extended invitations to postgraduate supervisors based within other research capacity building programmes in their African partner institutions. This brought together 24 new and experienced supervisors from Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and South Africa – and all working within diverse subject areas such as: health (medicine, nursing, and pharmacy), environmental science, civil and environmental engineering, computer science and agriculture.

This diversity produced valuable discussions and sharing of knowledge, expertise and experience of postgraduate supervision within different faculties, institutions and countries, and contributed to a successful course that was facilitated by Prof Chris Kapp – a consultant in Staff Development and Training from South Africa.
