Summary

MakCHS CDG aims to facilitate their staff to implement visionary, innovative personal career plans. Our main emphasis is on personal development plans; better graduate student supervision and mentorship. We aim to empower faculty members to take a leading role in development of successful rewarding academic careers.

With support from the MakCHS leadership, we have developed evidence based career development models that will guide MakCHS CDG in the implementation of its 2014-2020 strategic plan.  We have carried out a needs assessment of career development priorities in the School of Medicine in four departments that is: Obstetrics &Gynaecology; Paediatrics &Child Health; Anaesthesia; and Internal Medicine.

We initiated innovative monthly faculty career development series at MakCHS driven by departmental specific career development needs, targeting early career, mid-level and senior staff. These have included skills building workshops, case studies and group discussions. The meetings were held at times convenient for the staff, such as early morning and lunch time.

The programme will be scaled up to all the Schools within MakCHS.
