Strengthening research capacity

Call for Applications - Training Bursaries for African Postdoctoral Fellows

31 May 2013

The Global Health Research Capacity Strengthening Program (GHR-CAPS) is offering competitive training bursaries for African Postdoctoral Fellows. The bursary is for candidates currently living in Sub-Saharan Africa, who completed their PhD less than five years ago and who wish to orient their research toward the field of global health.

The aim of the bursary is to allow African postdoctoral fellows to develop and initiate a program of research activities (research, publications, dissemination) in global health. GHR-CAPS focuses on the development of transversal competencies essential to the pursuing of an autonomous career of researcher in the field of global health. The postdoctoral fellowship will have to be realised in an academic or research unit in a university participating in the programme. Fellows are supervised by at least one of the program's mentors affiliated with one of the four participating universities. Fellows are strongly encouraged to associate an African mentor of their choice.  Special attention is given to the integration of the candidate in existing research groups or teams and to the development of links with practice environments.

The postdoctoral bursaries are set in accordance with CIHR rates and regulations. The stipend is $36,750 for one year, non renewable.  The programme will cover the selected candidates' transportation fees. Training awards are taxed as income by the Canadian government.
