AAS and NEPAD are in the process of creating a funding platform at AAS – Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa (AESA). This new platform is intended to support the development of scientific capacity across Africa.
The platform (AESA) will identify challenges that hinder rapid scientific advancement in Africa, run open calls for proposals with transparent review processes, actively manage grants and evaluate and measure the impact of such investments. The AESA proposal has attracted strong support from a number of funders. The support we have received is allowing us to recruit key positions for AESA.
The Director will work within the AAS IHQ office in Nairobi, Kenya and its existing senior leadership and international partners to develop, implement and direct a new pan-African programme management platform for the long-term sustainable development of scientific research excellence, leadership and innovation to improve the lives of those most in need. The major focus will initially be global health and development impact in Africa.
