Strengthening research capacity

Inaugural Career Development Groups Meeting

Participants at the Inaugural MCDC Career Development Groups Meeting, Nairobi
23 September 2013 to 25 September 2013

The Malaria Capacity Development Consortium (MCDC) is holding its inaugural Career Development Groups Meeting in Nairobi. The meeting brings staff from six African universities together to discuss career development support at their institutions.

The career development groups project aims to support the development of sustainable career development support for researchers in the MCDC partner institutions. The project is working with colleagues from each MCDC partner institution to build capacity and expertise in areas such as mentorship, personal development planning and supervision within existing university structures, and promote sustainability of these activities beyond the project lifespan. The groups are also working together to develop a career development framework for African researchers.

Attendees at the meeting include representatives from College of Medicine, University of Malawi - Malawi, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College - Tanzania, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology - Ghana, Makerere University - Uganda, Université Cheikh Anta Diop - Senegal and University of Nairobi - Kenya. The MCDC Educational Advisor, Dr Hazel McCullough, is facilitating the meeting and is the main point of contact for this work.
