In 2008 the Malaria Capacity Development Consortium was awarded a £7.3 million grant by the Wellcome Trust to extend and expand the doctoral and postdoctoral capacity development programme funded previously by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, through the Gates Malaria Partnership (GMP).
The consortium later received an award of $5 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to enable the partnership to sustain the investment in the investigators previously trained through the (GMP).
The original funding for both awards ran from 2008-2013. We have since been successful in obtaining a no-cost extension from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for their funding until December 2015.
